ALEX GROSSMAN DOWN UNDER

January 23, 2006

For those of you wondering where Alex has been for the past couple of months, he just returned from what his father described as a great Australian Odyssey.  Apparently while down under, Alex has been making quite an impression on the scholastic chess community there.  During a stay in Brisbane he tied for first place point wise in the Australian Junior Championships (Under 10 yrs) but had to settle for fifth on tiebreaks.  He followed this up with outright first place wins in the Australian Junior Rapid and Australian Junior Lightning Championship events. Well done Alex!

From what father Mike says, we can expect to see Alex back playing at Burlingame Chess Club in the next few weeks.  For those keeping track, Alex was listed 39th on the USCF Dec, 2005 Top 100 List for 9 year olds with a rating of 1351.  I'm sure that number will be improving with these kind of results.
