SPECIAL EARLY-BIRD SCHOLASTIC AND BEGINNER TOURNAMENTS

 

Early evening play every Thursday before our regular Club meetings

 

Open to all Scholastic Players grades K – 12

 

Registration at 5:15 pm        Games begin promptly at 5:30 and end by 7:00

 

In response to parental requests, tournament directors Tom Dorsch and Bob Blatt are introducing early play in two sections for beginners and more advanced scholastic players.  This will be an experimental program, and some adjustments may be made over time, depending on the level of interest and preferences of the participants.  For the newer players, instruction in the rules of the game and basic strategy will be available.

 


SCHOLASTIC SECTION (USCF RATED TOURNAMENTS)

Tournament Format:        3 to 4 round Swiss tournaments – one round each week

                                          Game in 40 minutes

                                          All USCF rules apply
Entry Fee:      $10 per tournament

                        Both USCF and Club membership required *

Awards:   Immediately following last round of tournament

 


BEGINNERS SECTION (NON-RATED INTRODUCTORY PLAY)

Tournament Format:        Quads (3 rounds each week) – One-night tournaments
                                          Game in 15 minutes

                                          Relaxed USCF rules apply – chess notation not required

Entry Fee:      $7

                        USCF and Club membership not required
Awards:   Every week immediately following play

 


 

*    USCF Scholastic Membership (14 yrs and under) – $13 per year

      USCF Youth Membership (19 yrs and under) – $20 per year

      Burlingame Chess Club Junior Membership (19 yrs and under) – $25 per year
